MICHELIN SECURES MAJOR TYRE INDUSTRY ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD FOR A SECOND YEAR

  • Michelin rewarded for “visionary” and “template approach” to long-term sustainability
  • Award sees Michelin beat off the challenge from rival manufacturers

Michelin Tyre plc has been recognised for its commitment to decarbonisation, winning the prestigious Tyre Industry Environmental and Sustainable Solution of the Year Award for the second year running at the National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA) Awards.

Sponsored by Lord Mountevans of Chelsea and presented by the Worshipful Company of Wheelwrights, the award recognises outstanding corporate social responsibility within the tyre industry and is judged by an independent panel of Liverymen who sit on the Wheelwrights’ Craft Committee.

Announcing the winner, television presenter and event host Louise Minchin said: “Michelin’s entry was considered visionary and a template for an approach to long-term sustainability in manufacturing within the context of the circular economy.”

The award was accepted jointly on stage by Michelin UK Managing Director John Howe and B2B Sales Director Andrew French.

Commenting on the win, Howe said: “In a world where raw materials are finite, and during a climate emergency, our key focus is on using less energy and fewer raw materials, whilst continuing to do what we do best – maximising performance and efficacy over the lifespan of our products, and the safety of goods and people.

“As a company we strive every day to generate strong sustainable growth and create value that balances people, the planet and economic performance. Winning this award serves to reinforce all of our existing achievements and drives our team forward to deliver even more in the years to come.”

French explains: “Michelin is committed to combating global warming, preserving natural resources and protecting biodiversity. This is precisely why we are working so hard to set the global benchmark for the environmental footprint of our industrial sites and the energy performance of our tyres; all whilst being firmly committed to an ambitious circular economy approach.”

Michelin was one of five companies shortlisted for the award – beating off the challenge from previous 2021 finalists Bridgestone and Continental, together with ABAX and Marangoni.

The NTDA Awards were held at the VOX Conference Centre, Resorts World, Birmingham, on 6 October 2022, in front of approximately 600 senior tyre industry representatives.
