Zoetis to Present New Research on Canine and Feline AI Urine Sediment Analysis at ACVIM 2025

PARSIPPANY, N.J. – June 10, 2025 – Zoetis Inc., the world’s leading animal health company, will present its latest scientific research on Vetscan Imagyst® artificial intelligence (AI) Urine Sediment Analysis at the ACVIM (American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine) Forum in Louisville, Kentucky, June 19-21, 2025. Zoetis has scheduled two poster sessions, where experts will share new data on how AI-powered detection of urine sediment elements compares to that of board-certified veterinary clinical pathologists.1,2

Vetscan Imagyst AI Urine Sediment uses deep-learning AI algorithms to provide a comprehensive in-clinic analysis of a patient’s fresh urine sediment, analyzing ~ 1000 microscopic fields. A urine sediment exam analyzes different elements in an animal’s urine, such as red and white blood cells, crystals, bacteria, and casts. It is essential for a complete urinalysis because it provides valuable insights into an animal’s health, helping to diagnose urinary tract problems, reveal hidden issues that could otherwise be missed, and guide treatment decisions.

The deep learning system that powers Vetscan Imagyst AI Urine Sediment uses a large number of small filters to extract an extensive set of features from an image, which are then applied to a convolutional deep neural network. Deep learning AI excels in identifying often difficult-to-visualize urine sediment elements.
