WHEELY-SAFE PROTECTION IS THE “IDEAL SOLUTION” FOR JOHNSONS AGGREGATE AND RECYCLING

Johnsons Aggregate and Recycling is rolling out the latest generation Wheely-Safe technology across its fleet of eight-wheel tippers, improving the efficiency and health & safety of its operation.

The Ilkeston-based firm is in the process of installing the in-motion wheel loss detection system, which combines brake and hub temperature monitoring with an intelligent tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) on 25 of its Scania trucks.

Mick Glenny, Transport Manager at Johnsons Aggregate and Recycling says: “In our line of work, it’s important to look after the wheels and tyres, so when we heard of the Wheely-Safe product it sounded like the ideal solution.”

Moving forward, the firm’s fleet will now be protected by Wheely-Safe’s external TPMS sensors, which replace the valve cap and auto-pair with an in-cab solar receiver. These are fitted alongside a pair of wheel loss sensors and brackets on each wheel which transmit an in-motion alert to a solar-powered receiver in the cab, should the wheel nuts start to loosen. The same sensor also monitors heat and can quickly identify a temperature abnormality from the brakes or hub.

“We’re doing a lot of off-road work and delivering into incinerator facilities – you do get a lot of hub overheating. The fact that the system monitors any abnormality in that area is a huge benefit to us,” adds Glenny.

“With the data the technology provides, we should be able to identify the cause of any issues too which will help us ensure similar problems don’t arise again. It just gives you huge peace of mind.”

The company’s drivers will also be equipped with handy Pressure Checkers to get accurate readings without the hassle of connecting a pressure gauge to the valve, helping to make their jobs easier and safer.

Founded in 1999, Johnsons Aggregates and Recycling specialises in recycled aggregates, turning domestic waste into IBAA (incinerator bottom ash aggregate) via two of its own state-of-the art recycling facilities. With its 100% recycling and zero to landfill policy, the business is helping to reduce waste across the UK.

Notes to editor:

Wheely-Safe is an automotive technology business founded in 2010 by two lifelong friends – Gary Thomas, a Director of his own transport compliance consultancy, and Gary Broadfield, a Director of Technology and serial inventor for a large Japanese electronics manufacturer. Together they brought the marriage of skills required to help solve wheel loss issues in the automotive sector, and to tackle the huge number of vehicles driving every day on under-inflated tyres. The early years of Wheely-Safe concentrated on attaining worldwide patent protection and technology small enough to fit near the wheels of all vehicle types, from cars and vans to trucks and trailers – with its first products launched into the market during 2018, and a second generation following in 2022. About Wheely-Safe

Founded in 2010, Wheely-Safe is an innovative automotive safety technology company focused on eliminating some of the most persistent and high-risk challenges in road transport.
The company’s first commercial solutions, launched in 2018, were developed to address critical wheel-end risks including wheel loss, tyre under-inflation, and excessive wheel hub temperatures — issues that can lead to costly breakdowns, vehicle damage, and serious safety incidents. Building on real-world fleet experience, a second-generation product range was introduced in 2023, delivering enhanced accuracy, improved durability, and easier installation and operation.
Today, Wheely-Safe Connect represents the next evolution in wheel-end safety. The connected system continuously monitors wheel nut movement, tyre pressure, and other safety-critical conditions in real time, providing instant alerts to drivers and fleet operators before minor issues escalate into failures or roadside incidents. By combining proven monitoring technology with modern connectivity, Wheely-Safe enables fleets to move from reactive maintenance to proactive prevention.
The result is clear: improved vehicle safety; reduced downtime; lower maintenance and recovery costs; enhanced compliance; greater peace of mind for drivers and fleet managers.
With a focus on innovation, reliability, and practical fleet performance, Wheely-Safe continues to set new standards in wheel-end safety and operational efficiency.
