Lancashire Logistics is looking at switching its entire fleet to Schmitz Cargobull’s trailer telematics after being impressed by the system’s capabilities following the acquisition of six new reefers.
The refrigerated transport specialist has taken on six of Schmitz Cargobull’s EXECUTIVE refrigerated trailers pre-equipped with the manufacturer’s telematics system and its own in-house developed refrigeration unit.
Fleet Engineer Peter Calow says once the new trailers deliver on their promise of improved efficiency, the firm’s remaining 27 reefers will be retrofitted with Schmitz Cargobull’s technology.
Calow says: “We looked at a second manufacturer for these additions to our fleet, but the integrated telematics in Schmitz Cargobull’s EXECUTIVE package is the one that gives us complete peace of mind that each load has been kept at the correct temperature throughout its journey.
“And after seeing first-hand the quality of workmanship that goes into making their trailers on a visit to the factory in Germany, they were our first choice.”
The system provides remote monitoring and control, enabling Lancashire Logistics to ensure that its customers, which include major high street names like Nando’s and Subway, will get their deliveries in perfect condition.
Real-time monitoring trailer location will allow the Skelmersdale-based firm to operate more efficiently and Schmitz Cargobull’s 24/7 proactive monitoring will reduce unplanned downtime.
Lancashire Logistics also benefits from Schmitz Cargobull’s own refrigeration unit, designed to provide lower cost of ownership and greater reliability.
The reefers have been built using the German manufacturer’s FERROPLAST® panels, which are tougher than conventional bodywork, offer greater insulation and yet also thinner, so offer additional internal volume for transporting larger loads.
Calow adds: “The extra space in the Schmitz Cargobull reefers means the loading and unloading of pallets is so much easier, making our whole operation more efficient.”
Lancashire Logistics operates a fleet of 33 reefers – including 16 from Schmitz Cargobull – delivering pre-packed salad to high street food retailers and markets around the UK.
