SCHMITZ CARGOBULL’S FUEL-EFFICIENT REEFERS BEAR FRUIT FOR TRANSPAK DIRECT

Transpak Direct can look forward to reduced fuel bills thanks to seven new Schmitz Cargobull refrigerated trailers, as a result of the units being lighter and lower – reducing drag and improving overall fuel consumption.

The new reefers, built on a semi-chassis design, replace older assets in the fruit distributor’s 11-strong fleet and are used in a 24/7 operation delivering to food service outlets, supermarket depots and wholesale markets across the UK.

Each trailer – as standard from Schmitz Cargobull – is approximately 500kg-700kg lighter than its average competitor and 100mm lower than those built on a full chassis. Thanks to the thin yet efficient insulation panels, each trailer also has a greater internal volume – literally meaning it can carry more for less.

Trevor Bristow, Transport Manager at Transpak Direct, says: “Schmitz Cargobull trailers have a reputation for excellence for good reason. They are robust and high quality so we’re never worried about downtime, and the low profile means they save fuel as well. We couldn’t really ask for more.”

He adds: “The team were really helpful as well, making sure we have exactly the right spec to suit our business needs. It’s been a pleasure working with them.”

Each trailer has Schmitz Cargobull’s own ROTOS axle unit, which results in better vehicle handling and more braking power and comes with a 1,000,000 km warranty.

Other features include the German manufacturer’s proprietary FERROPLAST® panels which offer excellent insulation and are easy to repair if they get damaged. Also, the durability and cost-effectiveness of Schmitz Cargobull trailers mean they retain a higher residual value.

Kent-based Transpak Direct provides packing, storage and transport for ambient, chilled and controlled atmosphere goods from its 200,000 sq ft. distribution centre in Faversham.
