Uptonsteel has added four bespoke Schmitz Cargobull trailers to its fleet, improving the capabilities of its nationwide, next day steel distribution service.
The S.CS COIL curtainsider semi-trailers are custom-made for the business’ work collecting heavy steel coils from docks and unloading at its Leicestershire headquarters where they are processed into steel sheets before being delivered to customers across the UK.
Rob Wynne, Operations Manager at Uptonsteel, says: “The Schmitz Cargobull trailers are proving to be the perfect solution for us, with improved payload capability and reduced fuel consumption. We bought our first Schmitz Cargobull trailer last year, which we were very impressed with. They have been true to their word, with every trailer arriving exactly how they said it was going to be.”
Supplied by Aaron Howarth, Area Sales Manager East Midlands at Schmitz Cargobull, each of the new trailers is built on a galvanised MODULUS bolted chassis which has been designed for both strength and durability and comes with a 10-year warranty against rust-through on all galvanised parts, reducing maintenance costs and boosting residual values. A sliding roof allows easy access for the steel coils to be loaded through, with heavy lashing packages and stanchions inside aiding load security.
“The 10-year warranty on the galvanised chassis is a big plus point for us, the trailers are always loaded when working and the challenging weather conditions takes its toll on chassis structures,” adds Wynne. “We have seen deterioration on other products much sooner than we expected. The overall build quality of these trailers is the best we have seen on the market to date.”
The trailers join a 30-strong commercial vehicle fleet at the company which operates a mix of tractor units and rigid trucks. They are expected to be in service for many years and each feature a special design on the rear doors to mark Uptonsteel’s 50th anniversary.
Established in 1973 and based near Leicester with excellent access to the UK’s motorway network, Uptonsteel is one of the largest independent steel stockholders in the UK. With an experienced team and best-in-class management systems, the business offers every aspect of steel processing and distribution services.
