New X Multi Z sizes offer Michelin customers increased mileage in all climatic conditions

Michelin has expanded its popular X Multi range of regional truck tyres, with the introduction of two new multi-position sizes, intended primarily for fitment on the front steer axle.

The 315/60 R22.5 X Multi Z is ideal for vehicles requiring maximum load height and where there is also the need to comply with a 4m height constraint – as is common across much of mainland Europe. This will make the tyre a popular choice on vehicles required to operate on the continent, typically carrying light bulk goods such as furniture, white goods and automotive parts, as well as on car transporters.

Also joining the Michelin product line-up is the wider 385/65 R22.5 X Multi Z, which is aimed at operators carrying heavy loads – including refrigerated goods, tankers, bulkers and timber carriers.

Designed to blend the lowest cost per mile with outstanding traction all year round, they are rated ‘B’ for wet grip and feature the 3 Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF) markings on the sidewall, after passing tests in defined snowy conditions. This high level of grip is maintained throughout the tyre’s life thanks to Michelin’s Regenion technology – a self-regenerating tread pattern which includes hidden grooves that appear as the tread wears down, helping to maintain grip, traction and safety right down to the last millimetre of tread.

Chris Smith, Managing Director of Michelin UK, says: “Both new tyres provide at least 15 per cent better mileage than the products they replace, which represents a significant efficiency boost for fleets.

“Their launch means our regional tyre offering is now stronger than ever before, giving more customers access to the latest generation Michelin tyre technology to ensure they benefit from the best mobility in all weathers.”

Michelin has used a blend of special rubber mixtures in the 385/65 R22.5 X Multi Z, offering the perfect balance of mileage, grip and low rolling resistance.

In the 315/60 R22.5 X Multi Z it has strengthened the rubber compound even further by introducing a new material called Forcion that provides a more cohesive compound, increasing the mileage potential of the tyre and providing greater resistance against abrasions, cuts, chunking and chipping.

Both new tyres also feature Michelin’s Powercoil technology to add endurance and robustness to the casing. They can also be regrooved and retreaded, for the lowest total cost of ownership and maximum sustainability.

The two products replace the 315/60 R22.5 X Energy XF and the 385/65 R22.5 X Multi F respectively and are available on the replacement market with immediate effect.
