DYCE CARRIERS MOVES TO EXCLUSIVE MICHELIN POLICY AFTER SUCCESSFUL TRIAL

  • Scottish haulier switches entire fleet to Michelin’s X Multi range of tyres and reaps benefits from multi-life policy
  • In-depth test period highlights improved performance, longevity and robustness of the tyres

Dyce Carriers, the Aberdeen-based family haulage firm, is transitioning its 100-strong fleet of HGVs and trailers to Michelin’s X Multi range of tyres after a two-year trial showed clear improvements in mileage and performance in comparison to the tyres it was running previously.

Over the next 12 months, the haulier will fit X Multi tyres on the drive and steer axles of its 65 trucks, which include models from MAN, Renault, Scania and Volvo. The company’s fleet of trailers – including curtainsiders, step frames and low loaders – will also be moved onto an X Multi policy.

Colin Johnstone, Transport Manager at Dyce Carriers, chose to switch to the X Multi range after initial conversations with Michelin Territory Business Manager, Allan Ross, led to a two-year pilot project that saw the company run a test set on one truck.

“We found the life cycle of the Michelin tyres to be exceptionally good compared to what we had. With our previous tyre supplier we were getting as little as 11 months wear out of them. The figures just didn’t stack up anymore,” Colin says. “It was an easy decision to transition our fleet to the X Multi range. They offer longevity and improved fuel economy and will definitely help to cut the total cost of ownership.”

Dyce Carriers, which this year celebrates its 50th anniversary, will also benefit from Michelin’s multi-life policy, regrooving and then retreading its tyres as appropriate, first as Michelin Remix tyres, and then via the Encore retreading process once the Remix product has worn.

Scottish independent tyre dealer, Redpath Tyres, is supplying and fitting the X Multi tyres to the haulage firm’s trucks and trailers, which clock-up between 130,000km and 150,000km per year. Colin says Michelin’s multi-life policy is the perfect solution to Dyce Carriers’ tyre management needs.

“Allan has been brilliant. He felt that once we took the initial step in testing the X Multi tyre range, the product would sell itself – and so it has proved. It’s an excellent product and is offering a far better drive than our previous tyres. The multi-life policy allows us to maximise the use of every casing, whilst also reducing costs,” Colin adds.

Designed to be the most robust tyres on the market for versatile applications requiring a combination of high mileage potential and traction, the X Multi range is targeted towards regional and specialist transport operators.

Specialising in the transport of construction equipment, kit houses and container handling operations, Dyce Carriers operates depots in Invergordon, Dalgety Bay, Grangemouth and Poole and has expanded its haulage work to Ireland and continental Europe.
