Agricultural contractor DS & JE King & Son is getting the absolute best performance from its new Fendt 728 tractor having specified MICHELIN AxioBib 2 tyres as original equipment.
The prime-moving tractor is equipped with Fendt’s Vario Grip central tyre inflation system (CTIS) which adjusts the tyre pressures at the touch of a button for optimal efficiency whether operating on the road or the field.
By pairing the CTIS with Michelin’s Ultraflex Technology rubber – which can carry considerably more weight than standard farm tyres and operate at very low pressures – the arable farm operation is able to improve fuel economy, soil protection, traction and, ultimately, yield.
“We opted for the Michelin tyres as they are the best for the job,” says owner Daniel King. “The footprint of these AxioBib 2s is huge; by operating at those low pressures when you’re cultivating in the field really does make a huge difference to the fuel figures and the amount of hectares you can cover in a day.
“They can operate as low as 0.6 of a bar for light duty work, which limits any soil damage, and then you can quickly pump them up to a good, safe pressure for moving big loads on the road. It really is the full package.”
The robust VF (Very High Flexion) casing of the AxioBib 2 tyres offer superb endurance, longevity and performance, while also giving a 24 per cent larger surface footprint which helps to spread the machine’s weight over a bigger area for less ground compaction.
Local Michelin Territory Business Manager, Charles Marais, carried out a thorough weighing process, ensuring the tyres – MICHELIN AxioBib 2 VF 600/70 R30 on the front and VF 710/70 R42 on the rear – will be working at the optimal pressures for each application.
“The service from Charles was first class,” adds King. “We use the Fendt for all sorts of duties, it can be pulling a cultivator, trailers, big trailed sprayers, drills, everything we use. So, to have the exact figures for the optimal pressures for each application is hugely valuable.
“If you’re going to invest in a central tyre inflation system, then you have to make sure you have the right tyres or you won’t get the best out of it. And with the money we save on fuel and output every day, eventually they will pay for themselves.”
