Bibby Distribution has reduced its accident rate by more than 10 per cent – surpassing its 2016 safety record which had resulted in the operator receiving two Gold Awards from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) last year.
The 3PL exceeded its targets to reduce overall accidents, Lost Time Accidents (LTAs) and RIDDORs (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrence Regulations) by more than 10 per cent versus its 2016 figures, which had already led to recognition by RoSPA for both Fleet Safety and Occupational Safety.
The company’s ongoing success is a result of targeted driver training using data derived from Bibby Distribution’s full-fleet telematics, and a persistent drive to encourage all staff to be accountable to each other in their safe working practices.
Andrew Mawson, Head of Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) at Bibby Distribution, says: “For two years in a row we’ve continuously improved on our already outstanding safety record. We’ve done that by ensuring safety remains at the top of the priority list, even as we’ve expanded our operations.”
Mawson believes the impetus Bibby Distribution puts on communication and engagement is central to its strong safety record. The company also invests heavily in its property and fleet to ensure it continues to excel in safe operation.
Mawson explains: “Our staff are proactive in identifying any potential safety issues, and then developing practical solutions which address them. If those solutions require additional funding, our board ensures it is provided; we see safety as a long-term investment that will pay for itself many times over.”
Bibby Distribution’s commitment to SHEQ contributes towards its long-term Road to Zero strategy, aimed at achieving zero harm, zero waste and zero environmental impact from its operations.
